I am currently the Youth Pastor (and Administrative Head) of Quezon City Evangelical Church, in Quezon City (duh!), Philippines. It’s a church with about a hundred twenty people attending regularly. We have two worship services every week – a bilingual (primarily Chinese, translated into English) service at 9:00AM, and an all-English Students’ Service at 10:48:34AM. (For some unknown reason, we never get to start on time.) The exception to the dual service setup is every first Sunday when we have a joint service to celebrate Holy Communion.
Before graduating, I had my last practicum at QCEC, and I became “part of the family” sometime in 2004. Aside from occasionally preaching in the English service, I also do translating for select preachers. (Nothing to crow about – some are gifted in translating, some are not. I’m one of the nots.) I also lead a Bible study every Tuesday nights.
QCEC is famous for so many reasons. It’s said that we were the first church to have air-conditioning. That’s one reason. Another is our church takes a good picture. Those who’ve been married in our church will attest that, on paper, QCEC has the most photogenic “look.” There are other reasons of course, but I won’t go into them.
Here are a few snapshots of my church:
Picture 1: Church facade – This is the first thing you will see when you come to the corner of Cordillera and Mariano Cuenco Streets. Took a while trying to find a good angle. This supposed-to-be beautiful image is somewhat marred by the two trees in the foreground. Wonder who planted them?
Picture 2: Church interior – This is where we worship. Incidentally, Bibles just pop up from their pews when people take snapshots. Hmm.
Picture 3: My corner “office” – Don’t let the clutter fool you – it’s set that way so people will avoid my space. The yellow book in the middle of my desk is Hitchens’ god Is Not Great.
