I should know, after backing into one last night at the Chinese General Hospital. Now my precious Wednesday has a little rumple on her back door. It’s going to cost an arm and a leg to get fixed. Or maybe just an arm.
Meanwhile, for this week’s Freaky Friday (which is posted on Saturday), take a gander at the following:
Here’s a paragraph from the article: “Christians who believe completely that the end times drama will play out according to certain scriptural references maintain a wary eye for signs of the Antichrist and the onset of the Apocalypse, but not all Christians accept the warnings of the advent of the Beast with his telltale numerical designation of 666 or believe that the traditional scenario of the Antichrist and his seven-year reign has any real relevance to the actual “signs in the sky” that will precede the Second Coming of Christ. In today’s world the term “antichrist” lost much of its power to provoke fear after the concept entered the popular mass culture.”
Hmm… My social security number ends in three sixes. Does that mean that I’m the Antichrist? (Some people would probably argue, yes.)
Of course, to help us keep a proper balance regarding the three sixes and the hysteria the number brings (together with all talk of doomsday, end of days, etc.), perhaps it would help if we actually turned to the Bible and read what it says about Antichrist.
“Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.” (From 1 John 2:18-22)
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.” (From 1 John 4:1-3)
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. (From 2 John 1:7)
The term “antichrist” appears only in these three passages of Scripture. They don’t talk about some future world leader who will force everyone to be branded with the “mark of the Beast,” but they indicate that antichrists are everywhere today–wherever there is a denial of Christ, and that he came in the flesh, the deceivers of the church, there you will find the antichrist.
Of course, if you’re wondering about the “man of sin” from the Thessalonian epistles, that’s another subject entirely.
