Lord’s Day 120510

Had communion this morning during our Lord’s Day Service. The sermon/message was on particular verses associated with Christ’s advent. Four passages were mentioned, with the sermon focused more on the last passage. The following passages are: the Magnificat, the Benedictus, the Gloria, and the Nunc Demittis. The first two are found in Luke chapter 1, while the latter two are found in Luke chapter 2.

The Nunc Demittis, proclaimed by Simeon upon seeing the baby Jesus, reads as follows:

Nunc dimittis servum tuum Domine secundum verbum tuum in pace
quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum
quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum
lumen ad revelationem gentium et gloriam plebis tuae Israhel

The question for the day is really a thought provoking one: Since we have now seen the glory of God’s salvation, through faith in Christ alone, by grace alone, do we share in Simeon’s mentality–are we ready to depart this world? This kind of puts a different spin on hymns like “I’d Rather Have Jesus” doesn’t it?

Blessings!
