For Lord’s Day 121111

I finally finished going through Ephesians and gave my sermon on the ending of Ephesians 6 this morning. I’m of two minds about this and about preaching in general.

On the one hand, I don’t pretend that my hearers remember everything that I say. I do however hope that God will honor their desires to know him more and he can (and probably will) cause them to remember what I’ve said in the sermon at the right time.

On the other hand, the listeners’ ability to retain x% of a message is no reason to have sloppy (read: little or no) preparation. Or preparation that is proportional to your assumption on how much your listeners can absorb in one sitting.

God is good.

Ciao!
